Government-backed ECO4 & GBIS funding — 100% free for eligible households

Home / Home Insulation Grants

Home Insulation Grants

You may be eligible for a Government grant towards improving your home insulation.

The most effective way of preventing heat loss in your home is with insulation in the walls, the loft or the roof. Having a well-insulated home could save you hundreds of pounds per year.

Insulation grant funding

Funding towards home insulation is available through government backed schemes for households that qualify, most often on the basis of household income, a qualifying benefit or the energy rating of the property. Insulation is usually the cheapest way to cut a heating bill, and it is also a condition of some heat pump grants.

We will tell you what you can access and make the application for you. What is available changes over time, so we confirm it before any work is booked in.

How do I apply?

Contact us at South Rings Energy Ltd today and one of our friendly team members will guide you through the process. We may ask you some simple questions about the heating and insulation in your home. Based on your suitability, we will then arrange to visit your home to assess what energy efficiency measures would be best for you and confirm whether you would qualify for a house insulation grant.

Types of insulation we install

Every home loses heat in a slightly different way, so the right measure depends on how your property is built. The three we fit most often are:

  • Loft insulation. Usually the quickest and least disruptive job. Insulation is laid between and across the joists to stop warm air escaping through the roof space.
  • Cavity wall insulation. If your home was built with a gap between the inner and outer walls, that gap can be filled from outside in a single visit, with only small holes to make good afterwards.
  • Roof insulation. For properties with a room in the roof, or no usable loft, insulation is fitted to the roof slope itself rather than the floor of the loft.

Your surveyor will tell you which of these your home needs, and whether insulation is best fitted on its own or alongside a new heating system.

Who qualifies for an insulation grant

Funding is usually linked to household income or a qualifying benefit, together with how energy efficient your property currently is. You may qualify if you, or someone living with you, receives any of the following:

  • Child Tax Credits (CTC)
  • Child Benefits
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income-based Job Seekers Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income Support (IS)
  • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  • Pension Credit Savings Credit
  • Universal Credit (UC)
  • Working Tax Credit (WTC)

Not on the list? It is still worth asking. Some funding routes look at household income rather than benefits, so call us and we will check for you.

Insulation and your heating bills

Insulation is the measure we normally recommend first. There is little point putting a brand new boiler or heat pump into a home that loses its heat straight back out through the loft and the walls.

A well-insulated home holds its warmth for longer, which means your heating runs for less time, your rooms stay at a comfortable temperature and your bills come down. It also makes a new heating system work far more efficiently once it is fitted.

If you qualify for insulation you may also qualify for other measures at the same time, so it is worth checking everything in one go.
